Grandpa’s Garden is an acrylic painting based on a photograph my mom took during our last trip to Guatemala.

The garden was on my grandfather’s farm, a place where my mom had spent time since she was young. I love this particular image of the two of us, and I can understand why she wanted to capture that moment in the late afternoon.

In the original photograph, I was simply walking around with a book in my hand. My grandfather, however, was very particular about watering his garden. He always said his plants needed to drink every day.

The soil in that volcanic region is incredibly fertile. I decided to imagine myself taking part in his daily ritual, painting myself as though I were watering the garden alongside him.
